Blue Heron  Herbary

Visit our 75 by 140 foot display garden and see all the herbs you can imagine. Our secret garden is located on Sauvie Island on the banks of the Columbia River. The Elizabethan knot garden is in a natural setting bordered by a wildlife refuge where waterfowl, eagles, cranes
and of course, blue herons abound. The garden is home to songbirds, bees and butterflies. 

When you visit the garden, you will notice unique unusual herbs, as well as household herbs are used as landscape plants. Over 275 herbs are planted in specialty beds. Some of our beds are: Mediterranean, tea, salad, bee and butterfly, lavender, Asian and of course our Shakespearean bed. We planted a new bed featuring Amerind plants found in North America. We specialize in having the widest selection of unusual herbs possible, from Ashwaghanda to Yarrow, as well as the finest culinary plants on the market.

Our nursery is open from the middle of March until November. We have medicinal, potpourri, everlasting, and culinary herbs for sale in the 42 and gallon sizes. We also have a good selection of scented geraniums. Lavender is for sale in every size and color imaginable.
For the last two years we have been offering a wide selection of medicinal herbs to meet the growing demand for them. Most of our plants are grown organically.

 Our garden shop was completed spring of 1999. We offer herbal gifts and products, Italian pottery and garden labels. We make dried herbal wreaths and floral arrangements, as well as all-natural potpourris. We
have bath and beauty products that we make from herbs harvested in our gardens. Our herbal eye pillows, dream pillows and neck pillows have been well received. We sell tea and spices, as well as tea cozies. We carry books about herbs and herb gardening. We have catnip products to drive the nicest cat over the edge. We make herbal dog cookies, which are sought after by discerning dogs. The peanut butter/ garlic are the best. We have expanded our lavender products . We carry handmade soaps, beauty products and cards. We have handmade birdhouse available also.

 

The baby chicks aren't babies anymore! Here they are hanging out in their back pen. They have started to lay EGGS!

Looking for a special place to hold your next event? The Herbary is excited to start booking for the 2011 season.

We are working on creating a area for receptions and parties. The garden is a lovely setting for a special occasion.
